Vinnie, you are so special for many reasons. I photographed you almost 10 years ago during a session of adoptable dogs at KC PAWS. You were adopted by a sweet couple who saw the photo I took. They took a chance on you even though you had been returned by others who didn’t see the gem you were. Your forever family eventually even gave you a human sibling! You were always treated like gold with special birthday cakes and so much love.
I was heartbroken to hear earlier this week he was suddenly diagnosed with only a few days to weeks left with his family. Vinnie crossed the bridge today, only 4 days after his session. I’ve photographed aging and critically ill pets for over 12 years and it shatters my heart every time. I try never to show my whirlwind of emotions during a session. I remain strong for the family and promise to celebrate each life through this documentary style photography.
This session weighed on me afterwards and I remembered how much people count on me during these final days with their pet. I know I’m only providing a sliver of comfort but I am so thankful I can bring peace to pet parents. This session is why I finally launched a seperate website dedicated to Going with Grace. It deserves its own space and I hope will be a resource for others. It’s a new year and my heart is ready for anyone who needs me to help preserve their pet’s memory.
